The Sandbox was launched in 2011 by Arthur Madrid and Sébastien Borget.
In the Sandbox metaverse players can buy land, also defined as digital real estate, build on it or sell it and create experiences. Users can also create other digital assets (NFTs) and sell them in the marketplace. Users have Ethereum wallets that hold SAND tokens and they use them to interact with the Sandbox mataverse. The Sandbox software uses Ethereum blockchain to track ownership of land and other digital assets within the game.
The Sandbox is owned by Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based game software company.
They are both built on Ethereum blockchain and both allow users to create digital assets, tokenise them and finally exchange them as NFTs. However, the Sandobox has double the land plots available compared to Decentraland. The Sandbox has 3 types of tokes, while Decentraland has 4. Currently, the Sandbox has a more detailed roadmap and its digital assets (NFTs) can be traded in Opensea.
